So you've bought the most reliable vehicle ever made, and you're wondering why the forums have hundreds of posts about why 4wd won't engage? Yeah, we don't get it either. This happens for a plethora of reasons, first and foremost, electrical issues. You want to know how to avoid the headache of electrical actuators that can and do fail? Switch to mechanical. Let the ImportLock be your solution to the typical 4wd issues that have plagued Toyota since 1986.
This kit includes all of the parts found in an IL-01-V2, with the necessary added components of a new shift fork housing, a longer shift fork, a 4wd light switch, and a 4wd light switch plug & pigtail. We literally can't make this any simpler. It's the best of all worlds.
The ImportLock is a patent-pending mechanical actuator for split-shaft A.D.D. front differentials. From its inception the ImportLock was designed as a way to protect your vehicle from electrical hazards that are present in actuators found on factory front differentials. We set out to create a product so tough that even if it fails, it doesn't leave you stranded. The ImportLock has 2 features that prevail over any factory. First, in the unlikely event that the locking cable fails, we've integrated a 2wd-return safety spring, which ensures that the slip ring inside your differential doesn't damage the axle shafts. Your factory actuator does not have this. Second, in the even more unlikely event that the locking cable fails in an area where you need 4wd to continue driving (sand for example), we've built in a manual threaded insert with a thumb-nut which you can tighten to secure the ImportLock into the 4wd position. When you've reached pavement again, simply loosen the nut on the insert and let the 2wd-return spring bring you back to 2wd. Your factory actuator can't do that either.
The housing of the ImportLock is machined out of 6061-T6 aircraft grade aluminum and features a shift rod of 303 or 304 stainless steel. The ImportLock replaces the front differential actuator with no drilling or modifications needed. Designed similarly to a shock absorber, with a double oil-seal to keep your differential oil in, and dirt out.

The ImportLock offers several features that factory differential actuators lack
Integrated Safety Return Spring
A 2wd safety return spring has been integrated into the design in case of failure of the shift mechanism/wire. This means that even if the shifter breaks, you will be returned into 2wd. No standard factory housing features this safety device.
4wd Locking Pin
A 4wd locking pin has been added to ensure you can engage 4wd, even in the case of a failed shift mechanism/wire. We will not leave you stranded when you need 4wd to get home. If the mechanism/wire fails, simply remove the pin, shift the rod into the 4wd position, and use the pin to lock the rod in place.
2wd-Low
Isolating the shifting of the differential and the transfer case means that 2wd low is now available. Engage the low gear on the transfer case without engaging the front differential. The front driveshaft will spin, but without the front differential being engaged, will not affect the front wheels.
Shift Without Power
The ImportLock is fully mechanical, and can therefore be engaged/disengaged without the vehicle running, and without it receiving any power. You do not need to have a battery, or even an engine, to engage the ImportLock.
These features result in several beneficial byproducts such as the removal of several switches, the removal of the 2wd and 4wd vacuum switching valves, all of the 4wd reliant vacuum lines, and any of the wires that go to the vacuum switching valves.
